Structure

We offer a mix of free play together with supervised and guided activities which help children make choices and become a competent learners.

Partnerships

The vicar from our local Parish Church visits regularly.

Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RSPA) worked with us when erecting new outdoor play equipment.

We have a very close relationship with St Ives First School as the school hall is used for music, gym and some events such as the Easter Bonnet Parade and the Nativity Play. Transition into St Ives First School is made easier for the children who will be joining through regular contact and familiarity.

Ofsted

Office for Standards in Education is responsible for registrations and inspection of our provision, for the latest report click here.

Buildings

Outdoor Play Area St IVes Pre-School

Set in an idyllic setting in the grounds of St Ives First School, we have two spacious and well equipped classrooms and a large enclosed outdoor play area. The classrooms are light, bright and welcoming, the outdoor area has a hard area for bikes and wheeled vehicles and a grass area with traditional outdoor play equipment.

Display Table

Display Table Christmas

This is a dynamic display and is an important link from home to pre-school. Children are encouraged to bring in objects from home and information relevant to the current week's topic, the theme changes every week. This home link opportunity brings the subject to life and engages each child with his or her own experience. We use its contents as a prop for circle time.

Role Play

Role Play

In order to spark BIG imaginations we have an imaginative house corner, a rail of dressing up clothes and a phone box permanently set up. Other displays are set up each day to capture the imagination of the children; examples of such themes are space, travel, rowing boat, fire station, castles and knights.

Maths Tables

Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy

New activities are set out each day in this popular area to challenge active minds into problem solving, reasoning and numeracy.
We have lots of fun activities to encourage active learning involving sorting shapes, colours and sizes for every stage of development.

Language Tables

Communication, Language and Literacy Puzzle

Fresh puzzles and activities are offered daily which promote opportunities for the children to improve communication, language and literacy skills. Ultimately helping them to become skillful and confident communicators.

Book Corner

Book Corner Library

A cozy corner, just the right size for pre-schoolers, with miniature settee encouraging children to sit down and "read" or be read to by one of the members of staff.
Books are changed regularly and displayed attractively, the children always have lots of choices including plenty on the week's current topic and theme.

Art and Craft Activities

Painting Craft Activity

Always a favourite area; in our messy play room we have painting, water, sand and dough tables. Overalls are provided to keep the children clean(ish!). There is also a mark making table where children can "write" or draw independently.
We have a daily creative art activity that children are always eager to participate in, the projects are displayed on the wall for everyone to see and they are always proud to take their art home.

Outdoor Play

Outdoor play physical development

We are lucky enough to have a super outdoor play area with a large climbing frame and slide and lots of outdoor toys such as bikes, scooters and cars.
Children are given the choice to play outside in our garden at the beginning of the day and after storytime.

Large Apparatus

Big Apparatus

Growing and developing bodies need lots of physical activity for physical and emotional well being.
As well as our exclusive outdoor area we regularly use St Ives First School Hall for music and gym.
The hall is also used for events and concerts such as the Nativity and Easter Bonnet Parade.
